I can’t believe that I (along with my buddy, Ethan) was able to pull this off! To be able to feature such fantastic people. People who’ve influenced my journey throughout the book world — it’s INSANE how lucky I am!
An absolutely massive and humbled thank you to all of the authors who allowed me to share their work with my small corner of the internet. You’ll never know how much this means to me! I am so grateful.

Today, on this final day of our UtopYA feature week, I am bringing you a person that I intentionally saved for the last day. This woman has been in my life for a year and I love her just as much as I did then. She’s been a HUGE influence on how I blog, how I interact with authors and other booklovers. She wrote a book that was in my Top 14 Books of 2014!
She’s MINDY RUIZ!
How I Met Mindy:
She wrote a tiny little book called Enchanted Heart that won me over from page one. I reviewed it, giving it a 5-star rating because I simply LOVED it. And she reached out to me in a gesture of thanks. We’ve been friends ever since.
Mindy Ruiz lives in a sleepy Beach Town in Southern California. When she’s not writing, she spends her time chasing after three boys, making flirty eyes at her hunky husband, watching fantasy television shows, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and hanging out at the beach with her very large and loud Italian family.
Her career in publishing started in the 4th grade with a story about a magic, museum-hopping, chair. Now, Mindy writes young adult, new adult, and adult paranormal romance. Her books always include tormented heroes, snarky heroines, and lots of swoon-y moments that will put a smile on your face or make your heart race. Mindy is the lover of a good romance, the underdog and John Hugh’s 80′s teen movies.
When her toes aren’t in the sand or her mind isn’t in the clouds, Mindy loves hearing from readers!
About Lying Cheating Heart
Cassie Vera thought the biggest threat to her life disappeared the night her boyfriend, A.J. Vasillios, used his one-time-use power and saved her from certain death.
She was wrong.
The mythological hit list she was on is nothing compared to her freshman year at the University of Las Vegas. Rooming with Vegas’s future female royalty has pushed her estrogen tolerance to its limit. Worse, Cassie must take place in a time-honored tradition that tests her faith, while her boyfriend’s new job threatens to shatter her heart.
When age-old traditions change …
Cassie’s school year is interrupted when the future queens are ordered to represent their houses in an annual high-stakes competition. While at her ancestral home in Malaga, Spain, Cassie discovers the Greek gods have gifted her with new abilities. Cassie takes matters of righting an eighteen-year-old wrong into her hands. However, actions have consequences, and Cassie’s may very well end up costing her and the House of Hearts everything.
With her family’s future at stake and the love of her life choosing sides, Cassie must cheat death one more time.
When duty requires you to do the unthinkable, where will your loyalties lie?
Only a Cheating Heart Knows.
Coming July 2015.
Also be sure to check out the book the started it all, Enchanted Heart!
A Virtual Sit Down with Mindy Ruiz — UtopYA Edition
1. Tell us about your experience with UtopYA. What’s your history with UtopYA and why do you attend?
I heard about UtopYA its very first year. I was desperate to go but quickly talked myself out of going to Nashville. After watching Myra McEntire’s keynote speech, I kicked myself twice and swore never to be afraid again.
Seriously, watch it!
UtopYA Year two rolled around, I called my crew and told them I was going. Didn’t ask if they wanted to go, straight up told them, “I’m going to UtopYA.” I was awkward and shy and all new baby horse walking through the convention. After the awards ceremony and the end of convention testimonials, I knew things were going to change.
I was changed.
The third year came, and it was a blur of happy hugs and crazy fan-girl squeals. I was home. I was with people who cheered when others succeeded and banned together when outsiders wanted to tear down others. Nobody was one-upping anybody. There were mass amounts of valuable information given and received with no expectations in return except you do the same.
UtopYA is that pinpoint moment in my life where I can say, “Yep, everything changed because I went to UtopYA.” Janet and her team have created exactly what their convention name proclaims; they’ve created a utopia for all those who love stories and the people who bring those stories to the world.
2. What is your favorite Nashville attraction and why? If this is your first time attending UtopYA/visiting Nashville, what are you most excited to see?
Hee-hee-hee. My favorite attraction… Wowza… Printers Alley. Aside from the literary reference, I love Ms. Kellie’s Karaoke Bar or Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar. More than anything, my favorite part of Nashville is the lobby of the Maxwell House Hotel. All of my favorite people and authors occupying the same space, it is my ultimate fan-girl, freak out, happy place.
3. What makes UtopYA different from any other book convention/signing?
The people. This convention/signing is the only one that encourages hugs, embraces all aspects of book lovers, and encircles the Lift-As-You-Climb mantra. Every victory, big or small, is celebrated. It truly is the only place where you can be the strangest flower in the bouquet and loved for that difference.
4. When not attending the conference, where will you be spending your week in Nashville?
Oh, so easy, either The Full Moon Saloon (you’ll have to track me down for the story and t-shirt that goes along with the place.) or ogling the professional athletes who’ll be sharing the Maxwell House Hotel with us.
5. What are you reading right now?
I just finished up Kissing Mr. Wrong by Kerri Carpenter and am still making all sorts of grabby fingers for Jennifer Armentrout’s, Scorched out June 16th! I also discovered Heather Lyons’ Collector Society. LOVE!
6. What are some of your favorite summertime reads? What recs do you have for your readers to check out this summer?
Favorite summertime reads, hmmm.
I’ll sink my toes into the sand with anything from Rachel Harris, Rebecca Yarros, C.J. Redwine, Misty Provencher, Molly E. Lee (Seriously, this girl’s books need to be scooped up like, so fast!), Trisha Wolfe, T.A. Kunz, Tiffany King, Jennifer Armentrout.
Yeah, you say books, and I give you authors who spin gold from their keyboards.
7. What can we expect next from you?
The long-awaited second book in the Game of Hearts Series, Lying Cheating Heart, will be out end of July. The final book in the Game of Hearts Series, Fatal Heart, will drop not too long after. Expect quite a few things from me this year to make up for the yearlong void: a couple category Paranormal Romances and the start of an NA Paranormal Romance series that will make question time and relativity. ☺
**QUICK! DON’T THINK!!**
Favorite summertime beverage? Peach mojitos!
Favorite Ice Cream flavor? Chocolate malted crunch.
Favorite part about summer? Late nights that blend into early mornings, summer flings, falling asleep in a beach chair, and the smell of coconut suntan lotion.
Lounging on the beach or summer road trip? Lounging on the beach.
Favorite ‘song of the summer’? Bananaramama “Cruel Summer” or Sugar Ray’s “Every Morning”
Going to UtopYA?!
